Notice:
The base 28 posts forming the Funny Animalphabet database were all posted on the same day. This seems to have frelled the usual "Older Posts" & "Newer Posts" functions for that day, making it impossible to just scroll through without using the navigation menu or the blog archive links. To correct this, early blog post dates have been changed (original post dates are noted in the posts) and the database pages have had their dates changed to spread the postings over a 10 day period. The Blogger system should now allow proper function. (Should)

Notes - Untangling Pussy's first appearance is quite the perplexing puzzle.  She appeared in a few unnumbered titles in 1944, including The Book Of Comics, All Top Comics, and Everybody's Comics. It gets more confusing when the story in Everybody's Comics is listed as a reprint from The Green Mask #13, which didn't come out until the summer of 1945. From what i can tell, The Book Of Comics went on sale first, but what story was inside is unknown. It was likely reprinted in one of the ongoing titles, but which story? (it was 5 pages if you're feeling particularly detective like)

  1. PHILPOT FOX - first appearance KIDDIE KAPERS # 1 (1945)

KIDDIE KAPERS # 1 featured the first (and only) appearances of
    (1) CUTHBURT THE CALF
    (2) PIGGSY PIG
    (3) PHILPOT FOX
    (4) HONEY CUB

  2. Technically they all appeared again 13 years later in Sharpy Fox #2. But that was just a reprint of Kiddie Kapers #1 (including the Oliver Bloodhound text story) with a new cover.
    So it only kinda/sorta counts.
